A new version of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) will be implemented in 2009. The new SACE has moved to a new credit point system. Students must now complete enough subjects to earn a minimum of 200 credits to gain the SACE. One Semester or six months’ study in a subject is worth 10 credits. There are two stages to the SACE; Stage 1, which most students complete in Year 11 and Stage 2, which most students complete in Year 12. However, there is now an option for students to gain SACE credits in year 10 as part of Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects.
Please see below for a diagram illustrating the new set up and value of subjects. Students MUST complete at least 40 credits from the following compulsory subjects at Stage 1:
At Stage 2 students must complete at least 70 credits from these subjects:
Students must also gain 90 credits by completing enough additional subjects at either stage 1 or stage 2.
These credits can be gained from learning outside of school as well. This includes the VET system.
TDTSA has been participating in a number of workshops and seminars assisting with converting the current system of marking VET to the new FUTURE SACE credit point system.
